“Bringing more fun to the world. Growing together in faith through Señor Santo Niño” is this year’s theme for Dinagyang Festival. Dinagyang is Iloilo city’s version of the Ati-Atihan festival widely celebrated in other parts of the country.
This was my first Dinagyang experience and definitely not the last. I am really impressed of how astonishing Dinagyang was in terms of the various attires worn by participating tribes in Kasadyahan and Ati contest. This only reflect the ingenuity, craftsmanship and artistry of the Ilonggos.
From the airport, tourists are welcomed by Ati warriors and with the drum beat exhibition, a typical Ati-atihan way of welcoming visitors.
One of the highlights of the week long celebration of Dinagyang Festival was the Kasadyahan. It was a showcase of cultural performances from nearby Visayan region like the Mascara festival of Bacolod, Manggahan festival of Guimaras, Sinagya sa Halaran of Roxas, Capiz, Pentaflores festival of Negros, Occidental, and other regional fiesta. Kasadyahan, showcasing the best of Western Visayas.
The much awaited activity of Dinagyang festival was the Ati contest. World class performances from different tribes. From the choreography to the props and costumes, everything was just worth watching. “Pinaghandaan, pinagkagastusan, at alam mong pinagpaguran”. Travelling from my city, Davao to Iloilo to witness Dinagyang was worth it. While i was watching every perfomances, it was goosebumps. And here are some of my captured moments.

As always, Iloilo never fails to amazed me. From the food, to the place, and of course to the people. Thank you Iloilo. Till next Dinagyang festival.
