Filipinos’ passion with basketball is incomparable. Playing basketball is very much a part of Filipino’s way of life. In fact, wherever you go in the Philippines, you would see many basketball courts. One best example is our own village. We have 6 courts and take note, it’s always jam-packed from Friday-Sunday.
Last Feb 27 and 28, young Dabawenyos who are basketball enthusiasts were very lucky because Jr NBA and Jr WNBA Regional Selection Camp was held in the city, bringing them closer to their basketball dream. The aim of the said camp was to continue to search for the best basketball players in the country and to fulfill dreams and aspirations of young Filipino.
The Jr NBA and Jr WNBA was presented by Alaska and it was held at the Ateneo de Davao University – Matina Campus. This was just part of Alaska Milk’s Nutrition Action Champion program that shape, train, inspire, and challenge children to achieve their dreams and aspirations in life.
Boys and girls joined the search for the top ten best boys and five best girl basketball players who will become members of the Jr NBA and JR WNBA All-Star team. There was also a search for the boy and girls coaches who will handle the two teams.
Next camp would be in Cebu, March 5 to 6 and then last leg would be in Manila, that’s April 9-10. Top 50 boys and 24 girls from the Regional Selection Camp will advance to the final selection in the National Training Camp in Manila, April 22 to 24. The program will culminate with the selection of Ten Jr NBA and Five Jr WNBA All Stars.
Indeed, it was a kind of activity that Young Dabawenyo basketball enthusiasts enjoyed the NBA experience like no other.
